I Am Carina And I Speak For The Books!

I am Carina, and I speak for the books! I read books because I love to and I write reviews because I need to place my thoughts in "paper". My reviews are honest. Usually not mean, but I can't make promises. Even when I don't like a book, I try to be as nice as possible. And when I love a book, I'm not going to lie, there might be some Fan Girling and Gushing.

Such a Pretty Girl

Such a Pretty Girl - Laura Wiess 4.5 starsHow did I know before reading this book that it would be so disturbing and raw that I would find it absolutely brilliant. Its very hard to realize that the topic in this book is so realistic. Meridith was molested by her father and now he has come back in to her life. With no escape and a sick, deluted mother, who prefers to turn the other way instead of standing up for her daughter, Mer decides to stand up to her agressor. But after being locked up for 3, intead of 9 years, Mer can see and feel the hunger in her father, and she knows she doesn't have much time before he strikes again. The writting style for Laura Wiess was great, fast paced and devastating at the same time. She didn't sugar coat the issue and it made this book that much more realistic. Mer's relationship with Andy was another one of those magnificent but heartbreaking things in this book. Andy was one of her fathers other victim, and Mer somethimes feels like she's being used by him and his mother, who has made it clear she wants revenge on her father. Still she loves him and wishes he would open up more to her and fight by her side. But Andy has decided to shut down and run, the opposite of what Mer is doing, and this drives a big wedge between them. The hurt, desperation, and all of Mer's emotions are so palpable that it brought me to tears once and gave me a lump in my throat many times. If you, like me, are a fan of raw, brutal, devastating issues that are probably happening somewhere right now. And of the authors that not only have the guts to write about them, but do it in a outstanding manner. Then I'm sure you will find this book more than great. As for me, I can't wait to start reading one of Ms. Wiess other books!4.5 stars
