I Am Carina And I Speak For The Books!

I am Carina, and I speak for the books! I read books because I love to and I write reviews because I need to place my thoughts in "paper". My reviews are honest. Usually not mean, but I can't make promises. Even when I don't like a book, I try to be as nice as possible. And when I love a book, I'm not going to lie, there might be some Fan Girling and Gushing.

Poison Study - Maria V. Snyder I don't think I writte amazing reviews that inspire people to read the book I'm reviewing. But once in a while I like to take my time and writte a nice enough review to praise and let people know that the book is really good, and worth their reading time. This will be one of those reviews.I was told time and time again to read Poison Study, and I kept putting it off for a long time. How foolish of me, right?. This book is simply Great. It grabs you from the very very beggining. From that first page, the first paragraph, even the first line! You are sucked in to Yelena's painful reality. She has confesed to murdering the son of the General of the 5th territory, and after spending what felt like an eternity in the dungeons, she is finally up for her execution. But instead of instant death she finds her self becoming the Generals food/poison taster. An oportunity given to her by Valek, the head of security of the country. He takes her under his wing, and at first he seems to be just a calculative, cold, murderous soldier but as the book moves on I fell for him. And I fell hard. There is so much more to his hard exterior and sexy mature looks, and it is all brought out by Yelena. Yelena was anolther great character in this book. I'm a huge fan of strong heroines, and Yelena more than fits the bill. At first she is just a fragile girl but she is very strong willed and very intelligent. She felt very real in her progression to become the mature, strong, skilled women in the end of the book, and she has more gifts up her sleve that even she doesn't know about. Something that I'm really glad the author did was build up to the love and romance between Yelena and Valek. I get tired of the "love at first sight' sittuations, and it was very nice and refreshing to actually have a development of getting to know the person before you are head over hills for said person (which is exactly what Valek and Yelena had). The side characters keep the rest of the story very interesting, and Ari and Janco, are definetly reading about worthy. The book is action packed and very well written, it kept me hooked all the way to the very end. So to wrap it up, if you haven't read it yet, don't be as foolish to put it off for long, like I did. Read it! You will not regreat it. =)
