Not perfect, but I do think that this was a very good first book for Darynda Jones. The humor is very thick. Its not painted on, its more like plastered on. This maybe be a good thing or a bad thing depending on you having a crude, sarcastic, smartass sense of humor(which I do).If you do, then you will feel right at home most of the time. The protagonist, Charley, is the Grim Reaper. Helping souls with baggage left behind to move on to the other side. She turns out to be much more than just the Reaper, but we don't find out till the end of the book.I like Charley. She is such a smartass, but a sweatheart burried underneath piles and piles of sarcasm. Not to mention the super steamy dreams she has with our mistery guy. Who turns out to be an old "aquantiance" from along time ago. He is a total enigma that Charley unravels little by little through out the book, while still working with APD and helping spirits and having near death experiences aaaand keeping potential hubbies at bay. *wipes forhead*Yeah.....there's alot going on in this book. Half the time I couldn't keep up with all the names and all the people that were mentioned. But overall, I really liked this book. No, it wasn't a 5 star but how much did I like it? Well, lets just say that I'm definetly Pre-odering the second book, Second Grave on the Left, for my kindle so I can read it ASA it comes out.PS. The guy's name is Reyes, and yes, he is super HOT. Totally swoon worthy!
